NAVY SONAR TESTING |
Since World War II, the Navy has been carrying out secret training operations in America's oceans. These operations involve the use of low and mid frequency sonar waves which scientists agree pose a threat to whales and other marine life who are exposed to these harmful sound emissions. Featuring Lynn Wilbur, a marine biologist from Turning the Tides Sitka chapter, and NRDC lawyer Taryn Kiekow, learn about the threats that Navy sonar poses to Southeast Alaska. |
DEATH PENALTY |
During the 24th legislative session, H.B. 9 was introduced to begin the death penalty in Alaska. This two hour program features Rev. Caroll Picket, former death chaplain of Texas, witness to over 95 executions, who visited Juneau to testify against the bill. Also includes an interview with Sue Johnson, executive director of Alaskans Against the Death Penalty, as well as Vic Fischer and Katie Hurley, two territorial legislators who helped abolish the death penalty in 1957 when Alaska was a territory. |
